Dear Parents/Guardians:

It’s hard to believe that our first term is a little more than 2/3 over.  We have been settled into our classrooms for 4 weeks now; I thank you again for your patience and understanding as we worked with the day school during the construction. Our students are settling into a routine too, and are enjoying many different projects and learning activities in their classrooms.

We want to remind parents that morning Arabic classes begin at 9:30 a.m. and finish at 12:00 p.m. Please note that there is NO TEACHER SUPERVISION before 9:15 a.m.  In the interest of student safety, please do not drop off your children at school before 9:15 a.m. There will be an adult on duty between 9:15 and 9:30 to meet the students at the drive-through area at the front doors. DO NOT PARK in front of the school. If you need to come into the school with your child, please park your car in the newly-enlarged parking lot.

It is also important to remember that when a child arrives late, it is disruptive for the teacher and the class, and for your child’s learning.  If your child is late, they must sign in at the office and get a Late Slip to take to their teacher. With the exception of Kindergarten classes, students will then go to their classroom on their own. For security reasons, no parent is allowed to go to a classroom or wander through the school.

There are no classes on November 21st as the teachers have a PD day. After that, we have only 4 more Saturdays left this year. Our last class is on December 19th. We start again on January 9th, 2016.

The instructors are always happy to speak with you regarding the progress of your child; however, this meeting must take place before 9:30 a.m. or after 2:30 p.m. You can arrange this meeting either at the office or by phone or email with the instructor.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. You can contact me by email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , by phone at the Woodroffe Avenue Public School phone number listed above, or by coming in to the office on Saturday mornings.

Thank you for your attention to the important matters listed above.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I just wanted to take a minute to thank you all for your patience and understanding during our difficult start-up this year.

Woodroffe Avenue Public School has been undergoing renovations since last Spring and, although it didn't affect the classrooms we were in at that time, it has had a major impact on us this Fall.  The day school has been unable to give us the same rooms that we have used during the past 4 years that I have been Site Administrator here.

We ask for your continued support as we work with the day school to resolve the problem of finding appropriate and stable classrooms for our students.

Thank you.

NUT ALLERGY LETTER TO PARENTS

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Woodroffe Avenue Public School is a nut-free school.  This includes peanuts, peanut butter, pecans, walnuts, pistachios, nut oils (i.e. peanut oil), nut flavourings (i.e. almond extract), etc.

We are therefore asking you NOT to send any sandwiches or snacks to school with your child that have PEANUTS or ANY OTHER KINDS OF NUT or NUT PRODUCT in them.  The only way to be absolutely sure is to read the label carefully.  If you are still uncertain, please send the unopened package with your child and we will look at the label.

I have attached a copy of  “Peanut Butter-less Lunch and Snack Ideas” from the Ottawa Public Health Department.  On the back side of the sheet you will find many ideas for snacks that you can send with your children that do not have nuts in them.  Please take a moment to look at this list.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at the school on Saturday mornings (613-722-6586) or at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it anytime.

We thank you in advance for your consideration in making the school environment safe.
